Re: Manage Vista via group policy on Server 2003 SP1

I think what Mark is saying is that you do not need to edit domain GPOs from a Server 2003 machine. In other words, if you personally do all of the GPO editing in your organization, you can do that from a Windows Vista system and manage both Vista-specific settings as well as downlevel-OS policy (e.g. XP, 2003, 2000). The key is that in order to manage Vista policy, you need to be on a Vista (or Longhorn) system while you're editing GPOs.

I want to be able to centrally manage all GPO's just like you can do in
Server 2003. I know I can use GPEdit to edit the local policy on a Vista
machine but I want to globally manage GPO's for all machine in a domain.

This is all speculative b/c I don't intend to roll out Vista to my folks
anytime soon. I just happen to be working with BitLocker currently and
wanted to push out a GPO from the domain controller to manage BitLocker
settings so that I could see in real time the computer pickup and apply to
BitLocker policy settings to store TPM and BitLocker info in AD.

Seems like a lot of these new features are only partially complete or are
going to rely on "Longhorn." I guess I should have expected this due to the
Microsoft product lifeline on 2003 and XP.

I guess i will just have to install and test "Longhorn" to fully manage my
Vista GPO's.

Thanks for your quick responses.
