Thanks for pointing out export/import. I was/am out of touch with
a domain env at moment and could only think of the backup/restore,
when in fact it is as you point out the export/import that allow migrate
table usage.

I would like to set up a test server, create some small group policy

GPMC, export and import. If SID or pathes included from "foreign"
GPO, then you can work with the MTE (Migration Tabel Editor, included
in GPMC)
Take a look inside the GPMC\Scripts Folder you can export and import your
whole environment with this scripts, not only GPOs if you like.
How do I set the GPO settings to a blank slate (all settings neither
enabled
nor disabled)?
Use a new one ...
In Windows 2000 how do you do an export Policy?
2000AD? With an XP Client and the GPMC
