I don't think you are barking up the wrong tree necessarily. If you
edit or view the usrlogon file, what does it say? That might give us
an insight to what the problem is. And group policy has nothing to do
with startup scripts, unless that script is being run through group
policy, which can be done.

Hello
I have an issue with an 2003 Server Standard server. This is a server for a
payroll company and outside customers log in to it to do their own payroll.
There is also a hardware firewall in the mix. The firewall vendor created
group policy which locks the server down almost completely (when you click on
the start button, all that shows up is administrator tools (which is empty).
There is literally nothing else available (except the payroll app). The
problem is that they added the administrator login to this policy, so it is
also locked out. A script (usrlogon.cmd) runs upon logon. If I stop that from
running, will that disable group policy from running? If so, how can I stop
it from running? I can see the file over the network (in the system32 folder)
but cant rename or move it (says file is in use). The script runs in safe
mode also, same lockout. Am I barking up the wrong tree with usrlogon.cmd?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks much.
