You probably need to enable logging and try to find any
possibly related messages in the event log of that machine.
Assuming that people can log in with non-cached domain
accounts, not much would likely result from disjoin and
rejoin of the machine.
There is a KB article on troubleshooting GP application,
written prior to the release of the resultant policy api with
XP that walks you through enabling logging by policy
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/221833/
application and determining where things are failing, assuming
that use of gpresult on the failing machine is not working or
useful and that there is noting helpful in event log once most
failures have been enabled for logging.

Roger,
I made a change to disable showing the user name in the Start Menu. It
worked on other machines but not this one. What interests me is that I
cannot run the Group Policy Results Wizard against this machine, the
wizard just hangs and goes to not responding. There is something about
that machine that is blocking the GPO from updating.

I would try making some small change in that GPO
and later reverse it, in order to increase the version
count and see if that triggers application.

Generally we have no problems with the GPO's we have applied. The
servers are Server2003, SP1 and all workstations are XP, SP2.
One workstation will not update one of the GPO's but works for
others. I have reviewed the GPRESULT output a number of times and
find no errors. The screen indicates this policy has been applied.
The event log for the worksstation shows Event ID's 1005 and 1030
repeatedly.
If I try and perform a Group Policy Results wizard in the GPO MMC it
times out and goes to Not Responding.
The user and computer are in the same OU as the majority of users and
computers in that site.
What setting on a workstation could cause this problem ??
