GPO - software installation

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Greetings..........

Were trying to migrate our software installation program to GPO since
we just implement AD. In the past we had an inhouse developed
client-server program which we use for software deployment.

We have about 6-9 types of PC brands and models, and with our old
Software deployment program we configured settings on the server and
client which enabled the server to identify each different type of PC
which enabled us to specifically control which application could be
deployed to which PC models exactly.

However since we have now moved to AD and trying to do the same with AD
GPO were encountering some difficulty.

Our AD OU structure is seperated by city and within each city we have
departments and the workstations located there in the seperate
department OUs. So all the diff types of PCs models from the same
department are put into a single OU.

Therefore using this apprach we cannot customise or control which
software packages will be deployed to which PC models. I'm therefore
thinking of using WMI Filtering to do this, eg by specific processor
type etc.

Would this be a viable solution? Assuming we regualrly prublish 6-7
applications each much?

Thanks for helping in advance.............
