Hi,

Sorry for changing subject line, but I think my new tests point to a
different problem.

You have these settings "Home/Office Desk" vs "Laptop/Portable". When a
local user logs into this laptop, they will get the "Laptop/Portable"
option, BUT when one of our domain users logs in, they get the "Home/Office
Desk" power option!

This makes sense to me, because their normal computer is a desktop and
that's what's in their HKCU, but it doesn't make sense in the context of how
Windows power management is supposed to work with roaming profiles.

Bearing in mind, the laptop is ALREADY set to "Hom/Office Desk" when these
users log on, I don't understand why it's going into standby and then ending
up as a "locked workstation" on wake up. Note they always use the mains
adapter, and I saw the battery was 100% after the last presentation when
this happened.

In light of the above, there's not much point in me implementing something
to try and force it to "Home/Office Desk", because it's already on that
setting.

Any other options?

OK, I can create a default user profile, but surely this will be
over-ridden as soon as each domain user logs in - they all have roaming
profiles...

You can also do this with a GPO but it is a little more involved. You
would
need to create a login script then apply the GPO to that computer only
(you
can use security filtering for this) and enable loopback processing.
This
would effectively limit the changes to the standby mode to that computer
only and for every user logging into that computer.

Total overkill! All I want to do is disable standby on a single laptop,
or just prevent it from entering standby mode, surely there must be an
easier way?

One thing I don't understand, when these same users log into their
desktop machines, the option to go to standby after 20 minutes is NOT in
effect. How can it be that suddenly it's in effect when they log into a
laptop? (The user profile and NTUSER.DAT is the same)
