Re: Disable Standby on a Laptop for all users?

Hi Steven,

Sounds like it would be a good idea to get this computer in your hands and create a default user profile. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319974

OK, I can create a default user profile, but surely this will be over-ridden as soon as each domain user logs in - they all have roaming profiles...

You can also do this with a GPO but it is a little more involved. You would need to create a login script then apply the GPO to that computer only (you can use security filtering for this) and enable loopback processing. This would effectively limit the changes to the standby mode to that computer only and for every user logging into that computer.

Total overkill! All I want to do is disable standby on a single laptop, or just prevent it from entering standby mode, surely there must be an easier way?

One thing I don't understand, when these same users log into their desktop machines, the option to go to standby after 20 minutes is NOT in effect. How can it be that suddenly it's in effect when they log into a laptop? (The user profile and NTUSER.DAT is the same)
