GPO - Registry change

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I have been doing some research and am finding contradicting data. I would
like to make a registry change to some desktops. I would like to know the
most efficient way to do it - I am currently using a vb script that adds the
key. Is there anyway to do it in the GPO - I see a setting under security
that says "registry" but cannot find any documentation on what that means.
Any advise would be appreciated.
