Michael-
Couple of things. First, do you have Windows Firewall enabled on these
machines? If so, that would explain why you can't ping them. Also, you might
try enabling asynchronous GP processing to see if that helps. If these are
XP machines, then that would mean disabling or not configuring (if its
enabled, otherwise, no worries) the policy at computer configuration\admin
templates\system\logon\always wait for the network at computer startup and
windows logon.
But given the error messages below, I am guessing it is somehow profile
related. You didn't answer my question as to whether these users have
roaming profiles?

Thanks Florian -
I'll definitely try the "user Hive Cleanup Service" and see how it
works... I don't think the user profiles are geting corrupted because they
are local profiles. Even if they were corrupted and they are being
reloaded when the computer boots for the first time during the day, why
wouldn't it reset all of their desktop and start menu settings?
Having siad that, the only thing that still worries me is that I cannot
ping any of the problem-child laptops. That has to be related to the
problem.
I've been running DNS and AD tests all day and they have all come back
clean. I don't want o call Microsoft for this but I have a feeling that
I'm close to making the call...
I'll let you know how the cleanup service works. Thanks!
Michael

Howdy Michael!

Even more strange, I just realized that this problem only occurs when
the computer boots up for the first time in the morning... I just
created a new user in AD and signed onto the same laptop with the new
user and it went right in.
Like Darren wrote in his posting, I do have a feeling that this has
something got to do with constant corruption of user profiles.
Here's a link to the "User Hive Cleanup Service". Go and install it on
the client and have some testing with it. Maybe it'll help you:
