You could try this assuming you can open explorer or the command prompt
[using cacls or such]. Give deny permissions for full control for
administrators to the \windows\system32\group policy\user folder and logoff
and logon again. You probably will not see the group policy folder unless
you have explorer configured to show hidden and system files. If you can
not do that you could do a parallel installation of the operating system
[ideally to another drive partition] or put your hard disk in another
computer as a secondary/slave to do the same task or to access your data to
backup. If you have another computer that can access your computer over a
network you also could try to edit Group Policy remotely by using the mmc
snapin for Group Policy editor and browsing to the locked out computer or
entering its name. You would need to be logged onto the remote computer with
an account that has administrator powers on the locked out computer for that
top work. FYI if you have any files that are encrypted with EFS on your
computer [XP Pro or Windows 2000] you can easily lose permanent access to
them if you reinstall your operating system. --- Steve
