Re: CD-RW wont Autorun

There is a Group Policy setting to disable autoplay that probably is enabled in a Group Policy at the domain/OU level. The setting is under computer configuration/administrative templates/system - turn off autoplay. You can use the support tool gpresult to see what Group Policies are being applied to a computer or user and the mmc snapin for Resultant Set of Policy when run on the domain controller can give specific settings applied to a computer or user and from what GPO.

As far as a third party software to burn cd's. That may be a permission or use right in that the user needs to be a local administrator to burn a CD natively in XP Pro [I am not sure about that] and the third party software may not require that. You could temporarily add a domain user to the local administrators group on their computer to see if that makes a difference or not. There is setting in Local Security Policy under security settings/local policies/security options - devices:allowed to format and eject removable media where you might want to configure it to be administrators and interactive users. Security policy can be managed via domain/OU Group Policy also which makes it much easier to configure larger number of computers.  --- Steve
Here's the situation:
Win2k3 AD Domain
WinXP SP2 Clients

Client systems autorun fine when part of a workgroup.  Once we join them to the domain, we lose the autorun functionality.  Also, if the clients don't have a 3rd party CD burn software installed, Windows will not burn a CD.

I've looked at group policy for misconfigured items.  From what I can see everything is set correctly.

Need help please!
