GPO setting not retained!

I use gpmc.msc to edit a GPO. In few hours I'll lose all the changes I have
made and the settings will return to the default values. I'm running Windows
2003 DCs in Windows 2000 Native Mode.
What I have to do to keep these changes from disappearing?
