As far as the RSOP not working, try to disable the firewall temporarily
[assuming there is other firewall protection] to see if that makes a
difference or not. If you still have a problem then it is not the firewall
but another problem. You also could use RSOP in planning mode to see if that
works and will give you an idea if the Group Policy shows as being applied
to the target computers. In general when there is a Group Policy and rpc
problem I suggest running the netdiag support tool on the problem client
computer looking especially for problems with dc discovery, dns, kerebros,
and trust/secure channel.

Also make sure that the client computers can ping the SUS server by fully
qualified domain name as in server1.mydomain.com. The SUS server must have
port 80 TCP available to the client computers. One thing I have noticed is
that it is important to use the fully qualified domain name of the SUS
server in Group Policy for the client configuration. Sometimes checking the
Windows update.log in the client computers \Windows folder can be helpful.
Make sure that you have approved some updates or the client computers will
have nothing to pull from the SUS server. The link below is pretty good step
by step in configuring Group Policy client for Windows Update. You can also
check the registry keys on a domain computer to see if the Group Policy has
applied or not. --- Steve
