Re posting this a a new message so that peopl may read it. I'd be interested
if anyone else has this problem.

Alan,

I've had this problem (well i still do) with my xp clients... Sometimes the
IE settings apply, other times they don't. There doesn't seem to be any
pattern to when they apply then don't.

My server is windows 2000. About the only thing ive found to work is a
registry patch on the client: (see below for an extract for my system
documentation)

I would really like an answer to this from someone at Microsoft. I swear it
must be a knowledgebase issue. RSOP shows that the settings should be
applied correctly, GPRESULT on the client shows the correct GPO's policies
being applied properly. From memory the log for the GP exension on the
client showed some problem (I think I had to enable some verbose logging
mode for gp extensions on the client - enabled by a registry key). I posted
this error a few months ago to the news group with no relply. I'll hunt
around for more details. Sorry I dont have them on me at the moment!

--------------------------EXTRACT --------------------------------------

Applied the following registry patch to the client overcome the GPO Polciy
IE6 settings problems. (partial fix found - see registry modifications
below) with this fix after a users profile is created on a machine it will
apply the IE6 settings correctly. i.e the first logon may not have IE
settings applied properly, subsequent logins have settings applied correctly

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions\{A2E30F80-D7DE-11d2-BBDE-00C04F86AE3B}]
