Changing file system display order

I use windows xp embedded in an application to print photographs. They are
sent from another computer to the computer running the printer. The software
sending the files to be printed are generated by a proprietary photo package
printing program which has two options for naming files: either numerically
or alpabetically (photo subject's name).
Printing with numeric file names allows the printer to print in the order I
need but the backprinter only prints the numeric file name and it is more far
easier for me if I have alpha file names printed on the back of pictures. If
I use alpha file names, the first one in the alpha list always prints first
and as new files are sent, the printer always prints the first one in the
list and the photos are printed out of sequence.
Is there any way to have the files in a windows explorer file list display
in time and date sequence by default. If that's possible, then I can use
alp[ha file names and print in sequence as picture files in the order they
actually are sent.
I hope this is not too complicated as situation
Thanks for your help.
