Re: Extending an array fails

'specified disks have less than 1MB available.'
The LDM is stored in the last cylinder of a harddisk, it needs 1 MB within
the last cylinder of the disk. I think it is referring to that. This space
needed to store the LDM is OUTSIDE any partitions/volumes, so free space
within volumes is irrelevant.
Another issue that can cauase this, is not the lack of available space, but
the inablity of the OS to address that disk space. I am no W2K3 server
expert so, this should just be considered a general remark. To illustrate,
non 48 bit LBA capable Windows version could not support disks/arrays > 128
GB, so any LDM stored passed 128 GB could not be read.

Hey guys and gals,
We have a 3Ware 9550 card where I just extended an array from 1.4TB to
2.8TB
(just added drives). The 3Ware card shows the rebuild successful. I
followed
the instructions from 3Ware to remove drive letter, reboot, goto
diskmgmt.msc
and run extend disk (the disk is dynamic). The problem is that feature is
greyed out.
When I goto diskpart.exe, and select the volume and type extend, I get an
error saying that the 'specified disks have less than 1MB available.' All
of
the disks on the system have at least 2GB open (the disk I am extending
has
the lowest disk space). Anything I am missing?
The OS is Windows Server 2003 Ent SP1.
In event viewer I get: Cannot grow LUN Harddisk3: Extending the LDM
partition failed (Event ID 1000).
2TB autocarving is enabled per 3Ware instructions (although they mention
that 2003SP1 should handle without carving).
Thanks in advance as always!
