Re: Startup Config tool for XP

tfsnfs.sys BABA5939 bast at BAB99000, Date stamp 4055fe57

I think the system is not finding the .sys file but discussion forums on the
'net say it has to do with a conflict in Sony's software and Dell's CD-R/W,
DVD drives but it's usually another type of drive than what this laptop has.
The Sony DLA or Drive Letter Access function has problems there. Performing
a Search in Safe Mode doesn't turn this file up at all. Also, as I said, you
can't uninstall anything in Safe Mode, at least this laptop won't let you and
getting rid of Sony's DLA program is what the discussion forums have been
saying to do.

Thanks.

Hi, Dana.

I don't think you've ever told us what the blue screen says? :>(

Please quote it verbatim in your next post. Especially the STOP code, both
hex code and text label, plus the 4 hex numbers that are usually included -
and the driver or application name, if shown.

If you need help getting the BSOD to stay on the screen long enough to read
it, post back for instructions on that.

Nope. Stopping services doesn't change anything either. Still get the
b.s.
I guess there's more damage there than what it's telling about that one
file.

System Restore was turned off some time ago and can't be turned on in
Safe
Mode. Don't know why he did it but it's been done. Wipe and
reinstall?

You could try msconfig.exe once more, turning each and every
startup task and all non-MS services.
