Re: I cannot boot Windows XP in safe mode

hi Santistas,

how is the physical drives on the system mounted ? ,

Does your C drive mounted on SATA or IDE ?

This might occur if yo have changed your drive from SATA or IDE to SATA or
IDE drive or NTOSKRNL or HALL.dll is damaged in most of the situations

Action Plan
=======

See if you can get to Safe Mode this way.

Start | Run | Type: msconfig | Click OK |
Boot.ini tab | Check: /SAFEBOOT | Click Apply |
Click OK | When you see the prompt to restart the computer |
Click Restart

Don't forget to UNCheck /SAFEBOOT in msconfig after/if you get into Safe
Mode and are done doing whatever or you will be STUCK in Safe Mode.

2) run recovery console and run chkdsk /r within the recovery console.

3) Try uninstalling a newly installed program and check if safe mode is
working

Question
======
when was the last time it worked

what changes did u made after which safe mode stopped working

Hi Sainath,

a) The version 9f Windows XP is 5.1, Build 2.600, Service Pack 2
b) The version of mup.sys is the same: 5.1.2600.2180
c) When the reboot occurs, tege is no error message. Windows just reboots
when reads "mup.sys" and then opens the same black window as before (the
same as after pressing the key F8).
d) This rebbot happens only with the "safe mode" options (with network,
....).
If I choose "start normallly", or "the last known good working", etc.
Windows opens and works normally.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I cannot boot Windows XP in safe mode.

The process runs up to the "mup.sys" file and then reboots.

I found no virus using Norton and AVG antivirus.

Any suggestions?
