Re: Copying permission to new replacement drive.

If the drive is only being accessed from the network, you dont need to go through the hoopla of changing drive letters. Just share the new drive E: via the CIFS server and you are done - after the RoboCopy that is

On my W2K server I have a drive running out of room that I will be replacing with a RAID 5 array. The current drive is drive D: which has a bunch of shares on it. New array will install as E:. First thing I am going to do is use RoboCopy to copy all the data and security from D: to E: but I am not sure if this next step is going to work as I think it will.

What I plan to do is:

1 Stop the Netlogon service
2. Stop the Server service
3. Open Disk Manager
4. Remove the Drive Letter D from the old drive.
5. Change the assignment of E: to D: for the new array
6. Restart Server service
7. Restart Netlogon service.

Will this work?
