Re: undelete files

Hi, Adam.

Oh, for the days of FAT and the REAL Norton Utilities, including Undelete and DiskEdit! :^{

First, of course, do not let anything write to that partition.

Second, like Joep, I don't know of any pure "undelete" utilities for NTFS in either WinXP or Vista (you didn’t say which operating system you are using).

A couple of times - the latest was two years ago, thankfully - R-Studio from http://www.r-tt.com/ saved my bacon, especially several GB of family photo files. It's not free; the $49.99 version probably will do what you need. The web page says that, among many other things:

"R-Studio utilities recover files
"Deleted without Recycle Bin, or when Recycle Bin has been emptied;

It worked for me. ;<)

Good luck! And please report back, good or bad, so that we know what to tell the next guy - and there WILL be a next guy, I'm sure!

I have just accidentally shift-deleted a folder containing 300GB of video
files from a 360GB NTFS disk, instead of another small folder that I intended
to delete.

I have a good selection of 'undelete' applications that instantly find the
contents of the deleted folder, and some of them even find the folder
itsself, but they all want to 'recover' selected files to another disk.

However, all I want to do is re-instate the folder and its contents since I
have not overwritten anything on the disk since the deletion. It seems crazy
to spend several hours copying off the files (and I don't have sufficient
space on any other disks anyway) when surely just a few bytes need to be put
in some damn file table...

Solution, anybody...?
