Granting computer account access to file shares

I was under the impression that you could grant a computer access to a file
share folder, and, that that would allow the computers System account to
access the folder?

I am trying to setup a SQL 2005 database to backup to a file share folder
via a UNC path. I've added in the computer the database resides on to the
share and the folder's NTFS rights will Full (tried Modify, first) Rights,
but, the backup still fails.

I cannot change the SQL database from using System, so, cannot setup a
Domain User and give that user rights, so, was trying it this way.

Thanks.
