any Windows file syncing tools?

OK, I admit I have been a bit sloppy and have wound up with multiple versions
of files in several different folders all over the place. Fortunately,
whenever I've put a file in a different folder, at least I've kept the same
name. I know programmers have file comparison utilities but they're usually
text-based. Is there a tool that can compare Word documents, Excel
spreadsheets, PDFs, etc.?

I would appreciate any help, please. I'm using Windows XP Pro with Office
2003.
