Checking File open/inuse

Hello, I use batch files to call wzunip on automated schedules.
Occassionally the files are still coming in when the automated process
start. If a file is still being FTP'd to my server when wzunzip starts, the
unzip process will fail with an invalid zip error. I would like to be able
to check that the file is not open or inuse before calling wzunzip. Is
there a way to do this from a batch file and check the result code before
continuing?
.
