The files we have on our system are newer than those in the hotfix, so I
wouldn't expect that issue to apply here. In addition, I don't think it would
explain why the disk is reported as having a corruption in the first place.

I'm going to connect it via USB and see what happens. I have another such
drive connected via USB, and that hasn't reported such corruptions. However,
I have another such drive connected to the Firewire 800 controller that seems
to working reliably too.
