Re: Moving User home folders and profiles

Hello,

I might be wrong on this, but quotas are volume based so you may have to
redo them anyway. I'm not sure of any "easy" way to solve your problem,
since most tools run with a single set of credentials supplied.

Once some of the MVPs get a chance to read this post they may be able to
provide you with an easier solution.

My guess is that you will have to take ownership in order to do this. Of
the options available to you, DSRAZOR for Windows may be able to help.
DSRAZOR has a feature that will create the new home directory, grant the
user ownership and permissions for the directory, set the new path for the
homedirectory attribute on the user, and actually move the files for you.
The only stipulation is that you need to have permission to access those
files... which it sounds like you do not currently have.

If you would like to see a free demonstration of this you can contact us for
a one-on-one web presentation.

Hello-

I have a small stumbling block that I am dealing with and wonder if anyone
has a trick up thier sleve to help.

We recently got a new storage array and I would like to move the users
home
directories as well as thier profiles to the new array, from our old array
which is old and failing. However the problem I am encountering is
permissions, I am obviously administrator but the users have exclusive
access
to some of thier folders like my documents etc which it is not allowing me
to
copy (or read). I could mass take ownership of everything but that would
be
highly unproductive as it would screw up the quotas and everything.

Does someone have a reccomendation of how to accomplish this with
maintaining the appropriate owners and permissions?

Thanks

.
