Folder view settings on a thumb drive

I have a USB drive that has about six folders on it. When I open a folder
in "My Computer" it always defaults to the "Icons" view. I change the view
to "Details", but my change does not stick.
I went to Tools/Folder Options/View and made sure that "Remember each
folder's view settings" is checked.
Am I missing something? Is this just a "feature" of a USB drive?
I'm using Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 2.
