Hi,
Honestly, it is hard to find the root cause since the problem disappeared
already.
Based on my research, there are several reasons why the tab is missing,
such as third party program, permission on the registry key
HKLM\Software\Classes\Drive not being set properly etc. To troubleshoot the
problem, let's try the following suggestions:
(1). Safe Mode
Please reboot the server into Safe Mode to test the issue. Is the Security
tab still missing?
(2). Check the permission on HKLM\Software\Classes\Drive
Make sure appropriate permissions have been set. On my machine the entries
are Administrators, CREATOR OWNER, Power Users, SYSTEM and Users. If the no
user has been defined permission here, click Advanced and enable the option
"Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects??"
(3)Group Policy
===============
1. Click start -> Run, type "gpedit.msc" (without quotation mark) and then
click OK.
2. Locate the "Remove Security tab" policy under
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows
Explorer
3. Double click this policy and set it to "Not Configured" or "Disabled"
4. Click Apply and click OK.
5. Restart computer and test the issue again.
6. If the issue persists, please try the next method.
Note: You may also find and delete the policy-related entry "NoSecurityTab"
from the following registry key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er]
(4)Corrupted Registry keys
===============
1. Click start -> Run, type "regsvr32 rshx32.dll" (without quotation mark)
and then click OK.
2. When you receive the following message, click OK:
DllRegisterServer in rshx32.dll succeeded.
3. Restart computer and then test the issue again.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Vincent Xu

Hello,
I had a problem that I am trying to determine the root cause of a
the
This is a Windows 2000 Std. Server SP 4 with all current patches.
I received a call indicating that a user was getting "access denied" when
trying to run a common network application.
When I tried to view security there was NO security tab. I then went to
scandiskroot folder. The folder showed the correct rights. I decided to reset
permissions on all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable
permissions.
This generated numerous errors, including access denied. I then tried to
take ownership; getting similar results.
I felt there was something wrong with the file system. I enabled
fromon the drive that houses this application and rebooted.
When scandisk was complete I have the following msg in the event log:

This being complete I went back to the directory to check security on the
executable file. When I got there file was missing. I restored the exe
thetape and tried to launch it. It now complained about a missing dll in
OSsame directory. I restored that also. After this restore it complained
about missing another dll. To resolve the problem I ended up deleting
everything in the folder and restoring it from tape.
Now I am trying to determine the root cause for the problem.
The hard drive did not show any errors.
The raid card did not show any errors.
The bios did not show any errors.
I don't believe the problem to be hardware related...leaving either the
or the application.
Can you provide me with any information in helping to determine the root
cause of this problem so that I can prevent it from reoccurring?
Brian
