Print spool problem in Win2k

My computer with Win2k suddenly stopped printing several days ago. The
problem is related to the print spool, not the printer. If I try to add
a printer, I get errors about available resources and subystems. I
have edited the registry to rid it of any reference to any particular
printer. Niether the printer (hardware) nor its software are visible
through add/remove hardware or add/remove software. The darn thing is
not much use without a printer !
