RE: DFS replication w/ Folder Redirection + Roaming User Profiles

Hi,
As we know, XP Client Roaming Profiles using DFS and FRS are not supported
for the following reason: Roaming profiles that are replicated via FRS to
multiple link targets might lead to data loss (due to FRS conflict
resolution) if a user logs in to multiple workstations, makes changes to
the same file on different targets, and then logs off both workstations.¡±
In R2,DFS-R might be faster and DFS is smarter about using servers, and
the likelihood of a conflict is lower.Data loss can still occur. Because it
is not really merge changes, but replicate only the blocks that change
Best regards,
Vincent Xu

Hi,
I've two Windows 2003 R2 servers. One is the PDC and the other the BDC on
the same domain. The two servers are linked via cable modem and I want to
allow any user to log onto any machine at either location and find their
profiles and "my documents" regardless of where they are.
I found that the user couldn't download their Roaming User Profile (RUP)
thethey logged on via the server that didn't have a copy of it as the cable
modem link was too slow.
I figured I could use the new R2 DFS namespaces and replication to keep
duplicate copies of the RUP and redirected "my documents" on each server.
I also changed the URL's from the \\ServerName to the \\DomainName so
tryuser can find their RUP's and offline files on whichever server they are
closest to.
I am running into various problems with this technique, but rather than
attemptingto resolve these individual problems, I'm wondering if what I am
upload/to do is:
1. Supported
2. The best way to accomplish what I need (considering I using a 1MB
3MB download cable modem between sites).
