Sounds like Directory Service traffic to me. Normally, a client connects to
a dc in the same site, however if the subnet the client is on is not
assigned to a site in sites & services then it defaults to the first site.
This can cause excessive traffic across the WAN. The solution is to assign
your subnets to sites.

I have a Windows2003Server in one location,
and a windows xp workstation in other location.
A network traffic probe application shows me that
there is a traffic from the server to the station on
the microsoft-ds protocol. Like 75Mb in 1 hour.
The traffic stops after a period of time.
But I don't understand why this traffic is made when
I do nothing on the workstation.
I don't have offline files.
This traffic appears random on more stations (all xp).
I don't think is a virus because the traffic is not
constant. I think something is syncronized or downloaded,
but I don't know what. It is not from WSUS because
this appears separetely in my network analizer and can
not be this big. In the TCPView program I can see the
port is opened by the process "System".
I want to know what could generate a normal traffic with
Server Message Block and Microsoft-DS protocols from a Windows
2003 Server to a WinXp station.
Thanks
