Re: cant read folders on hard drive

In this case, following what Dave said on taking ownership should do the
trick.

i dont know why the folders are not accessible. originally i had a tower
PC
with this drive as backup. I was running win2k pro. i'm pretty sure the
80gb was formatted on an ntfs partition. Ive tried to install the drive
as a
backup in a XP tower. when i explore the drive the folders can be viewed.
when i click the folder, an error message pops up that says folder E:\My
Files is not accessible.
since then ive installed the HD in a USB backpack housing and have tried
to
access the files on a XP and Win2k Pro laptops via USB. Each way has the
same result: folders viewabe contents of folder not accessible

You didn't tell us the reason for "not accessible" but try taking
ownership.
Explorer|"folder"|File|Properties|Security|Advanced|Owner and take
ownership.
