Re: Access denied trying to copy a file

Thanks for your response.

The trouble is in the instructions

To take ownership of a file or folder

1.. Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the file or folder you want to
take ownership of.
2.. Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the
Security tab.
3.. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4.. In the Change owner to box, click the new owner.
5.. (Optional) To change the owner of all subcontainers and objects within
the tree, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
The security tab isn't available when I right click on the file. In fact
only the general tab is available.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Matt

Guys,

I've recently changed computer system and moved my old 160GB IDE into a
new
system with a 250GB SATA drive. I'm trying to copy a file from the old
IDE
drive to the new 250GB drive and keep getting an access denied message
even
reading the file.

The operating system is Windows XP 64 bit, both disks are formatted as
NTFS
however obviously the old 160GB disk was formatted when I had Windows XP
32
installed. I'm really at a loss as to how to open the old file or even
copy
it to my new drive.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Matt

You may have to seize ownership of the problem file/folder.
Look for hints on "ownership" and "permissions" in Windows
Help.
