Jabez, Thank you for trying.
I may have found something, one of these two ways fixes the issue..
a)
before -cvtarea c:\cvtarea.tmp 500 mb /contig /firstcluster 3 gb
after - cvtarea c:\cvtarea.tmp 500 mb /contig /firstcluster 1 gb
b)
before - system partition was 4096 mb
after - increased it to 8192 mb

Somewhere read that the file allocation table has to be at 3gb mark if the
partition is 8gb or more. If 8gb or less it has to be at 1gb mark. So if
I
chose either option 'a' or 'b' and then run diskpart it works beautiful.

Again I appreciate your time.

Its not a brand new hard disk (new installation). Was running Windows
2003
before just reinstalling it.

If it's a brand new hard disk, let me suggest that you downlaod the
diagnostic software from the hard disk's manufacturer and do a full
format
using their software. If it fails, send the hard disk back to them.

This is a brand new installation. Diskpart is creating on an
unallocated
disk space.
Just confirmed with chkdsk and it hangs as well.

Note: It partition the way I want it just not releases the diskpart
,
when
I
do a CTR C and do echo %errorlevel% it is 1.

I am trying to use diskpart.exe to partition an unallocated space
as
follows.

Diskpart -> select disk 0 -> create partition primary.
I don't get any error code, it just hangs right there. However,
if
I
cancel
this (Ctl C) and check the disk it has already created the
primary
partition.
It is just not releasing control.
Tried "noerr" with the script as well and hangs that the same
exact
place.

Any ideas why diskpart would hang there ?.
