Hide file extensions for known file types question

My problem is that every time i reboot PC the "Hide file extensions for known
file types" tick box is unticked. I have tried ticking it via CP/Folder
Options & from theExplorer tool bar. Once ticked it remains ok until re-boot.
I have also made sure i clicked apply button so its not that.
Any ideas its driving me mad as i can see all the file extensions which i
dont want too.
