you might suggest copying the file to the local PC, working on the file,
saving it and copying back to the remote PC.
Not exactly a viable option for most attorneys. There are quite likely hundreds of possible documents involved. Then there's the headaches of trying to keep them properly in-sync. All sorts of products claim to aid this process yet most don't work as needed.
It may be more reliable to use a terminal server instead of trying to remote to individual desktops. One concern about the desktops is the resolution and number of colors. A 1920x1080 desktop in millions of colors might be great in person but it makes for a lame remote session. Especially if the calling client machine doesn't have those resolution or color settings. Then there's a reliability question. It raises a security issue when the users do things like set their screensaver to not require a password. Any with physical access to their office would then also have access to their computer and any network files. Not a good plan. A terminal server locked in the server room doesn't have that risk. Nor the color/resolution issues.
