the computer uses a standard windows login and uses a domain. he

windows remote desktop connection, he gets a message like 'can not

doesn't. i am sure that the desktop recieved some patch that
changed some setting. i contacted our IT group and their answer
was that they do not support windows remote desktop and therefor
can't help me. i asked if it was allowed and not supported and the
answer was yes. we requested admin rights to his computer and are
currently waiting. once that goe through, i want to go into admin
tools in control panel and play but was hoping that somebody had an
idea where i should look.
Is the user listed in the user group: Remote Desktop Users on the local
machine? If not - add them.
It's possible your IT department got wise (after all these years) and
removed the users from the local "administrators" group. As if they were
members of the local "administrators" group - they were (by default) members
of the "Remote Desktop Users" local group as well.
Removing the users from the local "administrators" group could have had all
sorts of effects - one of which would be that the user cannot logon remotely
until someone adds them (their domain account) to the "Remote Desktop Users"
group.
The catch-22 - if you are not in the local "administrators" group - you may
be unable to add the user to the "Remote Desktop Users" group.
