Remote Desktop and laptop screen shutoff

When I remote into my desk machine from my laptop and the laptop
screen shutoff kicks in (battery mode), I can't get it back unless I
either close the screen and go into hibernate mode and come out or
power cycle it. If RD is minimized then I'm OK. It is just if I am
actively in the RD session when the screen goes off that it won't come
back.

Any ideas?
