Thanks for taking time to answer.

I didn't really get your initial question. I can set wake up mode in the
advanced properties on the network card. It sure wakes up when I connect
using remote desktop. I have the options of magic package and a few more
options. I have set it to "both" and it wakes up. Same with my FTP server
running on the same box. It works. It's just RDC that fails to logon and I
suspect the video card as well.

I have updated all drivers/firmware available on Dell's support site as well
as the drivers for the integrated video card. I have connected to this box
using RDC for several years using the same account and I still can connect
when the box is not in standby so I don't expect an account failure.

I have read other posts about video card problem with WOL/RDC but haven't
seen any solutions. One idea is that the WOL feature and/or XP fails to
properly wake up the video card but I don't know the inner workings of this.
I get the logon box on my machine but after a successful logon it bombs out.
The video drivers are involved in the logon process as well, one would have
thought.

Any help/thoughts on this is highly appreciated.

What did the body of your email have to do with your subject line? Wake On
LAN has a "magic packet' it needs to work - Remote Desktop does not
send/have anything to do with that 'magic packet'.

I would suggest is updating all your hardware drivers on the Dell Dimension
4700. Motherboard chipset, network card, video card in particular. Unsure
where to get them?

After that - I would create another administrative level account and attempt
to make a remote desktop connection to the Dell Dimension 4700 utilizing
that account. If it works - it could very well be something wrong with your
original account.

Also - from what it sounds like - you are thinking that when you remote
desktop connect to the computer - it should react just like you were sitting
in front of it - it does not.
