If the DNS doesn't take care of name resolution, you may want to use mlhosts. Or this search result may help.

Yea, I figured out I can ping it. Further more, I can also get
access to it's files by putting the ip-based format into an Explorer
address bar.. (as in...\\192.169.0.153\public). So I guess it's
clear the the issue has to do with the VPN client not being able to
reslove the name.
In the mean time, I can use that IP address scheme to get at the files
& even map the drive.
What does it take for the VPN client to be able to see the Linux
Server via it's name?
