Re: Remote Desktop Connection not found

I just reinstalled WinXP SP2 on one of my WinBoxes and, having installed all
the updates and set my antivirus and antispyware, moved on to getting my apps
set up. And I wanted to see how another box was set up, so I went to log in
to that box using Remote Desktop Connection... and it's nowhere to be found.
It's definitely not where it's supposed to be, in the Accessories
subdirectory in All Programs on the Start menu.

Okay, sez I, I must have forgotten to install it. Dig out CD, install just
RDC... Hmm. CD sez RDC is installed. Check Start Menu again. Nope, not there.
Hmm. Go to Microsoft, download RDC 6. Install. Installer sez RDC is
installed. Hmm. Check again. Not there. Look in C:\Windows and lower for
something vaguely resembling RDC. No can find, but not really sure what to
look for.

Does anyone know where RDC might be hiding, or a way to get to it using the
command line, or some other way of getting it visible?

Or should I just give up and wipe the volume and start over?

You can run the Remote Desktop client from the command line using the "mstsc" command. Run mstsc /? for command syntax.

Otherwise Go to the "C:\Windows\System32" folder and find the "mstsc.exe"
file. Right click on the file and select "Create shortcut". Move that
shortcut to the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Accessories\Communications" folder. The system may tell you
that you need to make this short cut on the desktop. Answer yes, then simply
cut the shortcut from the desktop and paste in the Communications folder.
Rename the shortcut "Remote Desktop Connection". You also may need to be an
administrator to do this...
