Really stump with one, hope someone can help!!!!!

Have a Home network running Windows XP workstations MachineA remote
desktop
was working until 3 weeks ago, then all of a sudden I am unable to get
access
to the machine from machineB gives an error "The computer cannot connect
to
remote computer".

On the mchine I am trying to connect to did a netstat -an0 | findstat 3389
and it shows:

0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0:3389 LISTENING

There is nothing in the Event logs on both machine. I also used portqui to
query the port and it returned:

Starting portqry.exe -n 192.168.0.107 -e 3389 -p TCP ...

Querying target system called:

192.168.0.107

Attempting to resolve IP address to a name...

IP address resolved to 7KW0551

querying...

TCP port 3389 (ms-wbt-server service): NOT LISTENING
portqry.exe -n 192.168.0.107 -e 3389 -p TCP exits with return code
0x00000001.

So it seems the machine is not getting through the port, before even
logging
in. I dod have Norton Antivirus installed on the computer I am trying to
get
to but the firewall feature is not installed. Windows Xp Firewall is also
turned off for your information.

Any ideas would greatly be appreciated, how this is enough information. Oh
I
also changed the port in the registery to another port instead of 3389
(changed to 3391) and it still did not work, so I have ruled out that an
app
is blocking the port.

Is there a way from the Windows XP cd to deinstall Remote Desktop and
reinstall the product?

More than likely a *complete uninstall of Norton* will fix the issue. Try that
first.

Beyond that you can reregister Remote Desktop by running the following
command from a command prompt. Make sure you have administrator privileges.
Reboot the PC after doing this...

regsvr32 remotepg.dll

A fix of last resort is a "Repair Reinstall" of the OS. Backup any critical
data just in case. Note the warnings on the page...

Good luck...
