Routing Internet and VPN traffic

Hi
When I work from home I use the VPN/remote desktop to access our
company intranet – that is great, BUT
is it possible somehow NOT to route my internet traffic through that
VPN tunnel.
Why? Cause it is unnecessary traffic trough the company’s network and
cause my internet connection is much faster than the one uses there
(performance issue)
I have read about split-tunneling, but don’t know if that’s what I’m
after?
Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance.
/Anders
