I have been looking at a number of responses to this problem and quite
honestly I am abit ignorant. I have gone into my linksys router in the
forwarding page and entered what I think is correct..entered 3389 "to" 3389,
selected TCP, and entered IP address 192.168.1.1.and enabled. (this is the
same as the router...not sure if this the right number or not), I also went
into a section called UPnp forwarding and I have these sections to fill out
Ext Port - is this for the 3389 I have read about, then I have a section
called Ext Port?? what would go here?..and would the IP address be the same
as 192.168.1.1?

Thanks for any suggestions.

To expand on Shenan's comments go to "Start -> Run" on the PC you want to remotely connect to and type 'cmd' in the command window (without the quote). At the resulting command line type the command ipconfig and note the reported IP address. Note the PC you want to remotely control should be using a static LAN IP address.

That is the address you use to address port forwarding through your router. Ignore the references to UDP Port 3389.
