Thanks Al had a look at that and installed it but found it way over my head.
Looked at the Forum as well for help but I just can't understand what it's
all about, not that techie! I'll just have to try and talk him through it
over the telephone :-(

I want to connect to my sons machine to help him sort out a couple of
problems. One of them is he has difficulty sending emails. Therefore I
cannot use Remote Assistance because he can't send me the invitation
email. Can I use Remote Desktop and just log into his machine? He is
running XP Home and I have XP pro. If so how do I do that? He lives some
180 miles away but has Broadband.

You would need to use an alternative like UltraVNC to remotely control a
XP Home box.
