The windows Firewall is up an all of the computers, but the remote desktop
exception box is checked, there is also the basic router firewall which I
have not altered, but it lets 5 of the 6 connections through just fine so I
doubt that would be it. I do not have any other firewalls running. Remote
desktop is enabled (I can connect to the laptop with the desktop, just not
the other way around). As for the local IP I have been using the computers
names, not the numbers.
When I tried the local IP (as outlined in the linked article) I got the same
result. I will continue to go through the article and see if I can find
something I may have missed.

I am having a problem with Windows Remote Desktop.
I have a small LAN in my apartment consisting of 4 computers (3 desktops
that are all wired connections using Windows XP SP2 and 1 laptop using
Windows Media Center that is wireless). I am trying to set up remote
desktop
so I can access the desktop computers from my laptop. My computers are
all
connect through a standard Belkin wireless hub.
All 3 desktops can connect to the laptop (remote viewing its desktop). My
laptop can only connect to 2 of the desktop computers getting an error
from
the 3rd. The only information it gives me is a dialog box entitled
‘Remote
Desktop Disconnected’ that states the following ‘This computer can’t
connect
to the remote computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues,
contact the owner of the computer or your network administrator.’
I have tried the following: gone through the network settings pages to
make
sure the laptop and the offending computer are exactly the same,
downloaded
the newest version of remote desktop, and switched the offending computer’s
network card. Nothing works and I am out of ideas.
Any help would be appreciated.
Are you running any type of software firewall on the 3rd PC that may be
blocking incoming Remote Desktop requests? Is Remote Desktop enabled on the
PC? Are you calling the correct local IP?
