I have a Static IP, a BEFSR81 Router and an internal Network running as a
workgroup. The Router is where everything on the Internal Network cnnects,
I
do not use an internal Domain. My Internet connection is DSL. I need to
connect to my unattended Home Network while traveling, I have a Laptop
with
XP Home, and a Computer in My Truck with XP Pro (all Latest SW). I have
High
speed access through a CDMA Phone. I can not use Remote Assistance, as I
will
not be there to authorize, how do I set this up? I would appreciate any
help.

What OS are the home PCs running? Do you simply want to access shared
files/folders or do you also need to take control of any of the PCs?

If your only needing access to shared files/folders then a VPN would work
well for that. Here are some suggestions about software VPNs that you may
find useful...

You might need to use a "lmhosts" file on your client to reach all the home
PCs through your VPN tunnel by name versus by IP. Here is an example...

If you also need to take control of any of the PCs from a remote location
then look at Remote Desktop *IF* the PCs are running Vista (Business,
Enterprise or Ultimate), XP Pro, XP MCE or W2K3/W2K Server.

If the PCs are running XP Home, W2K workstation, Windows Me, etc look at
UltraVNC with its XP video driver ( installed on a XP or W2K host PC only)
and encryption plug-in...

****************************

You can run Remote Desktop or VNC (any flavor) through a VPN or Secure Shell
(SSH) tunnel. The added benefit of doing this is that you only need to open
one port on your router in order to access multiple PCs.

Running Remote Desktop or VNC through a SSH tunnel help...
