Re: Remote assistance

Thank you for your response.

Do they know how to uuse it to invite you?
I know how to walk them through these.

Re: > Are they behind a NAT device or router or firewall?
If so - are the proper ports forwarded/allowed through?
This is where I need more detailed information. I know how to tell them
about what to do with the Windows XP firewall. What steps would I need to
take them through to deal with a NAT device or router or other form of
firewall.

Also, the other question which I had was whether I would need to turn off my
Windows XP firewall.

Also, I do understand that the Access application needs to be on an
Administrative account.

Thank you.

I am writing from USA. I have sent an Access application to a
client in Rome with instructions as to how to transfer the files
and where to put them. In the event that they do not feel
comfortable doing the task, can they (from an Administrator account
- Windows XP) invite me to take over their computer and (provided
they have the CD with the files in the drive) could I then put the
files in the right places and install it? I assume they would have
to turn off their firewall. Would I have to turn off mine? The
latter could be complicated in that in order to access a high speed
connection I would have to work from a network. Would I have to be
working out of an administrative account?

Any insight given would be greatly appreciated.

In general - if they have Windows XP - remote assistance is possible.
However - there are many considerations beyond whether or not they have
Windows XP.

Is remote assistance enabled?
Do they know how to uuse it to invite you?
Are they behind a NAT device or router or firewall?
If so - are the proper ports forwarded/allowed through?
Is the Windows XP Firewall enabled and the remote assistance port closed?

In order to assist or to be assisted - it does not matter on either end what
permissions level you are at - if everything else is setup correctly.
However - they would need the right to install things on their computer for
your installation to work.
