Well, WinXP isn't a server OS, so I presume you mean you have a workstation
acting as a "server" in a peer to peer network.

It seems very likely that something was indeed broken but you didn't know
it. Did you follow the pre-SP2 installation checklist? Is all your software,
and are all your drivers, SP2 compatible? SP2 is a very good thing and can
often be installed with no problems at all - usual problems are incompatible
software, hardware, or underlying errors in the existing installation (often
due to spyware).
