Lost sound with Windows Media Player Download.

I have just downloaded the New Windows Media Player for
Windows xp. Now all sound has disappeared from all other
installed media players, and I have no sound when I
access radio stations through their own web sites. It
seems to be impossible to contact the supplier for
information. Perhaps their internet enquiry systems are
just too unfriendly for a normal person to find their way
through? I downloaded this update at Window's suggestion
following an error report, and now have a much worse
situation than I started with. Can anyone tell me what
to do?

Thanks,
Ian.
