Ok - I suspect, that the registry key has been deleted by the worm mentioned
earlier. Specifically this one...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM
using Regedit.exe, you can browse to that location to verify. If it is
missing the recommendation is to re-install over the top of your current
installation by using your installation media, you will find an executable
usually in the I386 folder called winnt32.exe
from a cmd.exe prompt you can run
winnt32.exe /unattend
You will have to re-install your software updates but your existing software
should continue to function and non-OS settings will be unaffected, but that
should solve this problem.
